This time the Manager’s Corner is a personal note.
I have been so engrossed in news of the pandemic and the election that I didn’t take the time to publicly thank Jordan Edwards for having me on his podcast #ClockedIn. This podcast episode is about 9/11 and the book I am about to publish about the mystery surrounding the 9/11 flag captured in the famous photograph by Thomas Franklin of the firefighters erecting a flag at Ground Zero.
The book, entitled 9/11 Flag: Borrowed, Stolen, Recovered, illuminates the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the flag. Few people are aware that the 9/11 Flag mysteriously vanished almost as soon as it was raised in the late afternoon of that horrific day. A flag was substituted, and the flag that was flown by the firemen wasn’t recovered until thirteen years later. The real 9/11 Flag finally became available for public viewing when I donated it to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in honor of my husband, just before the fifteenth anniversary of 9/11.
I was able to write this story with contributions from Brian Thomas Browne, who unknowingly had the flag in his possession for many years. Although the flag was recovered, questions remain. My hope is a reader will take up the cause and discover the answers. The book will soon be published on Amazon as an eBook. The original intent was to release the book in print at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, but the pandemic has made that impossible for now. Instead, part of the eBook proceeds will be donated to the museum. Hopefully, the print book can be released at the museum in 2021, the twentieth year after 9/11.
The podcast links are below. There will be a new podcast once the book is published on Amazon. 9/11 is a critical part of our nation’s history. The many heroes from that day and those who perished at the hands of terrorists should never be forgotten.
